Connect a website to protection

Add your website

Open Websites & protection and choose Connect website. Enter a domain you own or choose a domain registered through HotWall.

Set the origin

Enter the server IP or a separate origin hostname, protocol and port. Do not use the public protected hostname as its own origin: this creates a routing loop. Check that the server responds on the chosen port.

Update the DNS records

Use the exact DNS target shown in your website setup. If the setup asks for nameservers, change them at the registrar; if it asks for CNAME or address records, update those at your DNS provider. Keep mail and verification records intact.

DNS caches can keep an older answer until its TTL expires. Check the authoritative records and wait for caches to update before assuming that the connection failed.

Verify and enable protection

Run Check DNS, then open the website workspace. Check the protection status, HTTPS certificate and origin health. Test the main page, login, API requests and subdomains. Restrict direct origin access only after the protected route works.
